Moving into a new house is an exciting new time. When moving into a new house, you can consider many things including what you will hang on your walls, what furniture you will put into your house, and what appliances you will need. While all of these things are fun, there is an even more pressing responsibility to consider and that is how will you prevent and plan for common house hazards.

There are different hazards a house can have, and often these hazards depend on the type of house you have and the age of your children. For example, if you have young children, one common hazard you will want to protect against is electricity. Kids are curious about everything, and a fancy plug looks like fun to a child with a toy the same size. This is a hazard that can be prevent with a little caution and forethought. All you have to do to prevent the hazards of electrocution is purchase a simple plastic plug that will cover the outlet. These are cheap, and easy to find, and will prevent unnecessary hazards. The great thing about these plastic plugs is that they are easy for an adult to take out when it is necessary to use electricity, but it is nearly impossible for a child to remove the plug.

Another common house hazard for children is stairs. Most children are curious when they are learning to walk, but are not yet aware of the forces of gravity like adults are. In order to prevent unnecessary tumbling down stairs, all you have to do is put a gate around your stairs. There are different varieties of gates, but often they are plastic. These are easy for adults to step over, but they contain the child in a safe and protected area.

Moving into a new house is a fun new responsibility, especially as you properly prepare to avoid any common house hazards.

Living in the south presents a set of home security issues that don’t have to be dealt with elsewhere in the country. Here are some of the things to consider when taking care of a Southern home
Weather Concerns: Think about the fact that it gets absurdly hot in the south then add that to the thought that most southerners don’t know how to prepare for cold weather. Carbon monoxide poisoning as well as heat stroke are a major concern in the southern US.
High-Crime Areas: Some cities in the south are notoriously high in crime such as Memphis and Atlanta. One way to think ahead is to look into a home alarm (think: Greeneville ADT Security) and by choosing to buy a home in the safest area you can afford.
Natural Disasters: The south is beautiful but from tornadoes to hurricanes it’s rife with natural disasters. Speak to a home insurer about what poses the greatest risk to your property and person and make the changes you can BEFORE crisis hits to avoid getting into any physical trouble.

As a family; safety plans are extremely beneficial because they ensure that your home is protected from burglary, fires, natural disasters, and many other issues that may ensue your life. Sometimes it all starts with where you move and who you know. Your surroundings have a lot to do with what outcomes may happen when it comes to the safety of your home. You want to make sure that your safety plan is effective, sufficient, and above all, reliable. A safety plan can consist of weekly based goals set aside for your family and yourself and can include things like checking heating vents, making sure filters are properly installed and cleaned, outlets are free of dust and other dangerous substances, floors are kept tidy, doors are kept locked as often as possible, and the dryer filter is often checked to prevent a house fire from starting because lint can cause house fires if not properly emptied.

If you have pets; be sure to keep them in safe places and limit where they can go when you leave the home because pets are smart enough to put your home in danger too. Do things like designating a special room for them to stay until your home again and closing the door before leaving to ensure that they don’t endanger themselves, your family, or destroy parts of your home such as carpets, furniture, walls, doors, and other household regions.

Every home, hotel and building requires a different escape route that’s best in case of a fire. Since a fire is an emergency situation that can get out of control in the blink of an eye, it’s pivotal to plan out an escape route in your head upon entering any new building.

An escape plan for your home should be mapped out on paper to review with family members, especially children. Fire drills are an important factor as fire and/or smoke can overtake a home in just minutes. Review with your family where the best exits are based on the room you’re in when a fire occurs. A meeting place outside should be decided in advance.

If you’re unable to exit through a door, it may be necessary to break a window. If a door is closed when you first smell smoke, feel the door with your hand for heat before opening. If the door is already hot, keep it closed; quickly stuff cloth under the door to prevent smoke from entering and exit through a window.

Advance planning is crucial in the case of a fire. Every home and building should have smoke detectors and fire hydrants that are readily available. If you live in a multi-level home or apartment, purchase escape ladders for each room. Apartment buildings, dorms and hotels will usually have elevators and stairways as well as posted evacuation routes for review.

The best escape plan in a fire is preparation.

Buying a house is an exciting adventure. There are many things that you should take into consideration before making that offer.

One of the most important things to consider before buying a house is the location. Not only must you decide where you want to live but you need to know the following.

Is this a safe neighborhood? Contact the local police department and get the crime stats, they will be happy to give them to you. Drive around the neighborhood and see what it-s like, are the homes well taken care of?

How are the schools? Check the local public school district website and get the graduation rate, the reading level information and SAT scores. This information is important even if you do not have school age children in your household. You may want to resell this home at a later date and a good school district can help make that happen.

How do the neighbors like living there? When you go to visit the house, knock on a few doors and ask the question. You want to live in a nice neighborhood and this will give you an idea of what the folks are like that live there.

Everyone knows a home alarm system can protect your home from thieves, but criminals in this day and age seem to have a little more on their minds than simple theft. As difficult as it is to imagine, a monitored home alarm system has become necessary to ensure our families remain protected at home.

Most home alarm systems are designed to detect smoke as well as carbon monoxide and natural gas leaks, and come equipped with one touch buttons, to immediately contact fire, police or poison control. Children can easily be taught to operate these in an emergency, so they can be a lifesaver if something happens to a parent.

A 24 hour monitored home alarm system is an absolute necessity to the elderly person living alone. Not only are their homes protected, but the security sign in the yard is likely to deter would be thieves, and immediate help can be had, with only the touch of a button, in case of a fall or other emergency.

As a bonus, the purchase of a home security alarm system will reduce your homeowner-s insurance premiums, so you will save money and feel secure even if you are lucky enough to never have to use it.
